Violent Hearts brings raucous rom-com to fantasy comics

IT's Insomniac in Seattle for the sword and sorcery set with Unlighted Horse Comics' upcoming limited series Savage Black Maria.
Writer Aubrey Sitterson and artist Jed Dougherty are showing there's time for love and warfare in that Dungeons & Dragons-esque five-issue serial publication that follows the human relationship of Bronwyn (a barbarian) and Graow (A inaccessible satyr-ish creature). Savage Black Maria is equal parts fights and romance, and the publishing house has even crafted a humorous dating ad for the upcoming series.
"She's a brawny noncivilized bruiser with a broken fondness; he's a lonesome beastman who talks to dinosaurs," reads Dark Horse Comics's description of Savage Hearts #1. "What happens when they team up against an evil thaumaturgis? Action, comedy, and coquette in this all-early jungle fantasise rom-com from Aubrey Sitterson (No One Left-handed to Fight, The Funny Book Taradiddle of Professional Wrestling) and Jed Dougherty (World's Finest, Harley Quinn, Justice Conference: Future's Closing)."

Bronwyn and Groaw meet American Samoa she is hunt for her old barbarian lover, and goes looking for him in his have jungle. Although Bronwyn initially receives the quest to look away for her uncivilized boyfriend from some magicians, she and Groaw arouse teaming upfield against a magician as the story unfolds.
"I am excited for readers to start out their eyes on this barbaric romance!" Dougherty aforementioned when Savage Hearts was proclaimed. "It has muscular action, piquant clowning, simmering emotion, and was a pleasure to draw!"
For Savage Hearts, Sitterson and Dougherty are joined away colorist Lovern Kindzierski and letterer Taylor Esposito.
"I can't imagine restricting myself to a single writing style," Sitterson added. "That's why I'm so well to have the sustain of Dark Horse Comics and editor in chief Brett Israel, whether it's connected fight comic scoop operas, raunchy sci-fi mysteries, OR aphrodisiacal jungle romcoms."
The print edition of all five issues of Savage Hearts will also include an undivided serialized backup story by Sitterson and artist Goran Gligović reimagining Robin Goon.
Strange Hearts #1 (of 5) goes on sale on July 14.
